Dalam gambar yang baru dirilis, terlihat bahwa pesawat ruang angkasa Shenzhou 16 telah berhasil bersandar pada hub docking modul inti stasiun Tianhe. Melalui kamera panorama di luar modul lab Mengtian, palka airlock kargo dari modul tersebut juga terlihat jelas.
Mereka melakukan pemasangan fasilitas aplikasi ekstravehicular besar, termasuk muatan eksperimen paparan biologis radiasi. Mereka juga akan memasang komponen serta peralatan eksperimen lain di bagian luar modul Mengtian.
Ketiganya juga dijadwalkan untuk mempelajari fenomena kuantum baru dan melakukan eksperimen terkait verifikasi relativitas umum dan asal usul kehidupan. Mereka juga akan menyampaikan kelas sains langsung sebagai bagian dari kegiatan penjangkauan yang direncanakan.
Astronot Shenzhou 16 adalah kru kelima yang mengunjungi Tiangong, dan yang kedua sejak selesainya pos terdepan tiga modul pada November 2022. China meluncurkan misi berawak Shenzhou 16 pada 30 Mei, mengirim tiga astronot baru, termasuk warga sipil pertama negara itu, ke Tiangong untuk misi selama lima bulan.
