Dalam buku The Cashflow Quadrant, Kiyosaki memaparkan tentang empat kuadran utama yang ada dalam dunia kerja dan bisnis, yaitu karyawan (employee), pemilik usaha kecil (small business owner), pemilik bisnis besar (big business owner), dan investor. Setiap kuadran memiliki karakteristik, tantangan, dan kesempatan yang berbeda-beda.
Karyawan adalah orang yang bekerja untuk orang lain dan mendapatkan gaji sebagai imbalan. Karyawan biasanya mengalami keterbatasan dalam penghasilan dan waktu karena terikat oleh aturan dan kebijakan perusahaan. Di sisi lain, pemilik usaha kecil adalah orang yang memiliki usaha kecil yang masih tergantung pada dirinya sendiri. Pemilik usaha kecil bisa meraih keuntungan yang lebih besar dibandingkan karyawan, tetapi juga memiliki risiko yang lebih tinggi.
